Where in the world is Ms. Gran?

Week of November 29, 2010
Continue you web site - make sure to read below if you missed any class days. If you want me to regrade anything: tables website, basic page, intro page - finish, upload, test, and send me specific info on what you fixed by this Friday.

Week of November 22, 2010
If you emailed me for help, I emailed you back last night. Continue your web site - you will have at least until winter break to finish. Remember to help each other!

Week of November 15, 2010
FYI - I graded everything from quarter one, but there was a school-wide grading system problem, so those grades are showing up for quarter 2 instead. I believe that is helping everybody instead of hurting anyone. If that's not true for you, let me know by Wednesday if I need to do a grade change for you. There are a few people who need to seriously rework their tables web site (you know who you are), now's your chance.
  1. Check out the link above! Ms. Burstein will be keeping you updated on future plans.
  2. You should have started designing the homepage for your new web site last week (see Nov. 8 if you were absent). Your web site should have a minimum of 5 pages including the homepage. You should have consistent navigation on each page, all pages should be linked together, and they should all be visually connected. Look at the rubric now, so you know what the expectations are.
  3. Finish your homepage design and color palettes by Wednesday.
  4. Build the homepage in HTML. Create an external stylesheet.
  5. Create the 2nd level pages. You might want to change the design a little for these pages, but once you write the HTML for one, do a "save as" and just change the content. This will save you time.
  6. Help each other. Use yourhtmlsource.com. Use the W3Schools.com. Use the HTML Visual Quick Start Guide books in the front of the room (ask Ms. Burstein).
  7. You can email me too, I just can't guarantee my timeliness in getting back to you.
November 8, 2010
Finish building intro pages and uploading everything. Don't forget to test all of your links and pages from the live site. Help each other please!

When you are finished with the above, brainstorm ideas for your first real web site! The site should revolve around the theme of identity. This could be your personal identity, the identity of a place: neighborhood, city, country, or pretty much anything you can think of. You can start designing the homepage for your new site whenever you are ready. You will work on this design all week. Before you start designing, try a few different color palette ideas. You can use these sites for help: http://www.worqx.com/color/palette.htm or http://colorschemedesigner.com/. Create a page in Photoshop where you document your color palette ideas by putting 4 small squares of color next to each other to see how they look together and to use as a reference later.

Here are the CSS practice instructions for your reference.

Continue working on your Intro page design in Photoshop. Remember, we need to know where we are - so some sort of header, perhaps "Welcome to... " there will be a list of links - starting with "basic page", but you will need room to add to it, there will be a photo, and you should write a little something about yourself.

Join my Moodle page! Log in, click on Art Department and choose Web Design. Under Week 1 Resources, click on, "OMG- the internet was made by who? For what?". Follow the instructions on the forum. If you finish early, you can begin reading The World is Flat excerpt. You should have this read by next Friday.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010
If you didn't finish making your first page, finish it today. Then continue the tutorial, by clicking "format your text" at the bottom of the "My first page" page. Keep going at your own pace!

Tuesday, September 14, 2010
